What is Laser Resurfacing?
Laser resurfacing is a fascinating cosmetic procedure that improves the appearance of your skin. Minor flaws caused by age, sun damage or other environmental factors can be easily be reversed by laser resurfacing.
What Does Laser Resurfacing Treat?
Laser resurfacing works by gently removing the dead and damage skin cells off the top layers of our skin. While it can treat a variety of cosmetic concerns, some of the more common reasons we do laser resurfacing include:
- Fine wrinkles
- Age spots
- Sagging skin
- Inconsistent skin tone
- Acne scars
Those with darker skin may have a higher risk of skin discoloration from laser resurfacing, but safe and effective options still exist. We have different lasers for different skin types and conditions. Here at Miracle Hills Primary Care, we will be happy to discuss the best treatment option for your skin and skincare needs.
What Can I Expect with Laser Resurfacing?
While some issues can be treated with just one laser resurfacing session, most skin conditions require multiple sessions to fully erase the damage that has been done to the skin. The tradeoff is little to no downtime after sessions and once the full series is complete, the results are long lasting. The number of sessions depends on what you are having treated and the severity of the damage.
Laser resurfacing can cause some minor discomfort, somewhat like a rubber band snapping against the skin. Topical numbing medication is often available and can be discussed at the time of your consultation. If the area to be treated is large, a local injection of anesthesia may be suggested.
Recovery can range from no downtime to a few weeks, depending on the size of area treated and the degree of treatment needed. After treatment, the skin will be very sensitive, but most are dressed with ointment that helps the healing process while relieving any discomfort or pain. Once healing is complete, you can enjoy fresh, younger looking and vibrant skin!
